Rhys Conquer is a young player who is looking to make a mark on rugby. He has already run out for tremendous teams. The centre has a brilliant story; let's dive in.

Starting out

“Rugby is everything to me and has been since the age of 6, when I started in Llantwit Fardre RFC. It’s allowed me to make some lifelong friends and has taken me to some pretty cool places all across the country. Rugby is a very strong part of my identity today and definitely gives me a strong sense of belonging whichever team I find myself in.”

The sport has played a role at every stage of his life. What started out on cold Sunday mornings in Llantwit Fardre RFC blossomed into a senior career. Building the foundation on the pitches of Llantwit led to Christ College in Brecon. It was an important chapter in his rugby story. He elaborated on that time in his life.

“Christ College Brecon, I’d like to think, has shaped me into the person I am today. I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to go and be a part of the rugby programme from 2021-2025, where I played and worked with some unbelievable players and coaches.

“I was also lucky to be named captain in my final year, an opportunity which I fully embraced as it meant I was able to represent the school which had given so much to my family and me in my favourite sport.

“Beyond that, the school gave me some once in a lifetime time opportunity’s I wouldn’t have been able to receive if I didn’t attend. So for that I’m forever grateful.”

Conquer sharpened his craft, which led to opportunities in the Welsh Premiership, and he made his debut for the iconic Cross Keys.

The Welsh Premiership

“I thoroughly enjoyed making my Premiership debut for Cross Keys, a great opportunity to test myself against the best team in the league, Merthyr,  and see where I’m at as a player. The coaches were very supportive, and you could tell they were proud to coach such a historic club!”

He would get his opportunity with the club. Yet, Conquer also has experience at the House of Pain.

“Coming out of sixth form and signing with Pontypridd was a great feeling. It felt like all my hard work had paid off and was finally being recognised. I learnt from some top-level players, such as Garyn Smith, formerly of Cardiff Blues, and adapted my game around the feedback I received from him and the other coaches.

“It was also awesome to be part of such a well-supported club. Seeing the support week in, week out and the number of people who turned up to the House of Pain, Ponty’s home ground, was mental! It made me realise just how much the club means to the local community and made me proud to represent Pontypridd.”

At the beginning of this season, Conquer arrived at Llanharan. The Dairyman are on a roll right now. He talks about joining the club.

Llanharan

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed with Llanharan for the 26/27 season, a family-oriented club with strong values who want to play to the best level they can. I’ve instantly clicked with all the lads and coaches and already made some good mates! I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve this year and hopefully keep our unbeaten run going.”

For the future Conquer talks about his ambitions.

“As far as future ambitions go, I just want to knuckle down this season and put my best foot forward with Llanharan and help out wherever I can. Hopefully we achieve some silverware, and potentially even promotion.”

A player with quality and hunting down every drop of improvement. It will be fascinating to see what the future holds for him.
