It has been a disappointing couple of years for Australians with crushing defeats. They were going in the right direction as they brought in Eddie Jones. Yet, Eddie Jones was reportedly in talks to become Japan’s head coach on the eve of the World Cup. It was a miserable tournament for the Wallabies. They didn’t make it past the group stage, a massive disappointment for the 2027 hosts. In the weeks after the World Cup, McLennan and Jones left their roles. It resulted in Herbert coming in to try and improve the situation.

Martin On The New Appointment

Martin is a former rugby union player and was a great talent to watch on the pitch. The fullback made his debut against the British Isles in 1989. The former Wallaby had nine caps for Australia and played most of his club rugby in Italy. Martin gave Herbert high praise after he got the job. Speaking on Brisbane’s Triple M Breakfast, he talks about the situation.

“The boss, Hamish McLennan, is an egotistical, arrogant fool who said I’m not stepping down. What sort of an example would that set for my children?

“All the unions around Australia, apart from New South Wales – stinking cockroaches. They think they run the whole bloody thing.

“What I want to talk about is the good news. The new chairman is a gentleman called Daniel Herbert. Who played about 80 Tests for Australia, won a World Cup in 1999 with Australia. Boy from Ashgrove (in Brisbane), born in Ashgrove. I love him.

“Thank God he’s now running Australian rugby. It’s a very positive thing.”
