Ferrari Boss On Why They Haven’t Won A Championship Since 2007

Ferrari has had a decent season in 2023, as they have one of the better cars this year. The Italian team has a load of history behind them. They are the oldest team on the grid and have won many championships. Yet, they haven't won a title since 2007 with Kimi Räikkönen. They were impressive when they bounced back from a disappointing 2020 season. Ferrari will look to become champions once again.

For the past two seasons, Ferrari has been the second fastest car on the grid. Yet, they are miles off Red Bull, who seem to be in another league. They are the only team besides Red Bull to stand on the podium's top step in 2023. The team will look to build on that success for the 2024 season. Ferrari has all the tools necessary to achieve greatness. The team has shown that it can produce a car capable of winning and have the drivers to get the results needed. Ferrari CEO Jon Elkann discussed why Ferrari hasn't won anything since 2007.

"There are always many reasons," he replies, "and it goes back to every single aspect counts. I recall when it was, I had to get engaged. We had a bad season in 2020. One of the things that surprised me then was that we did worse in pit stops than our ranking in the championship.

"That was an indicator of the mindset because, you need to get good at everything to win. On the margin, if you don't have a competitive car, the rest won't make you win. If you have that mindset, it is difficult for you to win."

Building The Best Team

Italy and Ferrari go together like bacon and eggs. Fredric Vasseur is the first non-Italian principal since Jon Todt. Elkann said it's all about building the best team possible.

"What is essential is to have the best possible team. If you're able to have the best possible team. You have women and men coming from different nationalities and backgrounds. That enable that to happen, that is very welcome.

"Our identity is defined as Italian, and the backbone of our organisation is Italian. But that is not in any way a detriment. So, it is a base you can complement with solid talents from different places."
