“Rugby means the world to me. It’s been a part of my life and my family’s life since I was four years old, when I started my journey being coached by my father.”

For Luke Yendle, rugby has a simple meaning: family. A player who has already experienced great moments in the game has a fantastic story, and it’s just beginning.

Caerphilly RFC

Every story begins somewhere, a place where the spark is lit for a love that will last a lifetime. One’s home club provides a platform to grow and develop, not just as a player but as a human being. For Yendle, that club was Caerphilly RFC. He talks about the club with fondness.

“I love the club and still have lots of friends who play there. I’ve also coached the youth team, and the amount of talent coming through is massive. I haven’t got a bad word to say about the place, and it’s somewhere I’ll always go back to.”

The prop’s talent didn’t go unnoticed, as he would go on to play for Dragons RFC.

Dragons RFC

“Dragons was brilliant for me. It allowed me to play at the highest level, make friends for life and see parts of the world I probably never would have experienced if it wasn’t for rugby.”

Being a part of Dragons RFC is a vital chapter in Yendle’s story, giving him a taste of the professional game. Yendle produced some amazing moments in a Dragons shirt, including when he powered over for a memorable score against the Ospreys. However, he also spent some time at the Stoop working with a former Welsh international.

“Harlequins was an amazing experience. Learning from some of the best players and coaches in the world was unbelievable. Working with someone like Adam Jones on my scrummaging was invaluable. I also made friends there who I know I’ll be close with for the rest of my life.”

Over the course of his young career, he has learnt a lot. Yendle elaborates on the biggest lesson he has learnt.

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to look after your body. If you leave things unattended, they can come back to bite you, which I learned the hard way with my knee issues.”

Yendle has experienced a tremendous amount. The prop will take all of that to Newport RFC as he looks to make an impact in the SRC.

Newport RFC

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to get some game time with Newport and show what I can do. I’m looking forward to getting some real minutes under my belt this season and making the most of every opportunity.”

It will be exciting to see what Yendle can do for Newport this season. A player with a lot to give, it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for him.

“I’m open to whatever happens. I’m happier now than I’ve ever been, so for me, maintaining that happiness in whatever I do next is paramount.”

The talent has been demonstrated, and the standards have been set. For Yendle, the next chapter is about pushing those standards even higher and showing just how much more he has to offer.
