Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall are Set for a Historic in London’s O2

Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall will square off in the O2 Arena, in London this weekend.

Marshall being the only person to beat Shields in her career, so Shields would like to avenger that Ammeter loss.

All the belts are up for grabs with the WBA, WBC, IBF, and Ring belts coming from Shields and the WBO coming from Marshall.

It’s important to note that a new belt will be on the line in honour of the late Queen Elizabeth.

Both fighters are undefeated in their professional careers. That means that somebody will be taking they first professional loss.

This is arguably the biggest fight in the women’s boxing history. With Shields and Marshall being the biggest names in the sport along with Katie Taylor. This fight has been brewing for a while now. As stated, before these two have met before at ammeter level in 2012. In this bout Marshall came out on top. This resulted in Shields being handed her first defeat ever in boxing. They have both led fantastic careers since that first meeting in 2012. Together with many wins and titles.

When you look at Shields’ body of work throughout her career. She made her professional boxing debut in 2016. Her debut came after a successful ammeter career where she won two Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016. In the space of six years Shields has fought a total of 12 times. Shields has been victorious every time she made the walk to the ring. As you breakdown her record she only has two knockouts to her name. Which could suggest that Shields lacks the finishing power that her opponent owns. She has won 12 world titles in super welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight.  This emulates the achievements of the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez. Who have also won titles in multiple weight classes. This illustrates when it comes to her achievements she is up there with the best.

Then when you look at her opponent Savannah Marshall. Her ammeter career wasn’t as good as Shields’ when it comes to silverware. With the highlight of her time as ammeter coming when she won the gold at the commonwealth games in 2014. She has a professional record of 12 win and 0 losses. 10 of those wins come by way of knockout. This is the opposite to Shields because Marshall has the power to finish a fight at any time. The evidence for this is in her last fight she stopped her opponent in the third round. When it comes to titles, she has held the WBO middleweight championship since 2020.

When you look at the fight, if Marshall wins the fight it is going to be inside the distance. Yet, if the fight goes the distance, it is more likely to go to Shields. Personally, the winner is going to be the GWOAT Clarissa Shields.

You can watch the fight on Sky Sports Arena on October 15th

Main card start of 7pm BST

Main event ring walks at 10pm BST
