The QB AFC East Picture For 2022

This year’s offseason is in full swing. With the draft and free agency coming up in the next couple of months. I think it is time to look at who will start at the Quarterback position for each team when the seasons starts next September. This article will be the first in a series where we break down the QB picture in every division in the NFL. Today we are going to be talking about the AFC east division.

Bills - This is one of those teams that have their franchise guy with Josh Allen. Allen proved last year that he is one of the best in the game today with taking his team to an AFC east crown and to the divisional round where a coin toss knocked his team out of the playoffs. If you look at Allen’s body of work throughout the 2021 season it has been pretty exceptional. When you break it down, he had 4,407 passing yards and average 6.5 yards per throw. Furthermore, he has thrown for 33 touchdowns. In terms of his weakness as a passer it is his ball security. The evidence for this is that he threw 15 interceptions in the 2021 season. However, he didn’t just pass well he ran like a man possessed this year. The evidence for this is that he ran for 763 yards and 6 touchdowns. This shows that Allen as a player can do it all. I think next year the Bills and Allen will be ready to be Superbowl contenders and there is no doubt in my mind that Allen is the guy to take them there.

Patriots- The New England Patriots in the past had never been in a situation where they had to find somebody at the quarterback position. This is because they have always had the G.O.A.T in Tom Brady behind the centre. After Brady moved on to Tampa Bay the Patriots had a yearlong fling with Cam Newton. That didn’t work out in the way they wanted it to. Then after that in the 2021 draft New England drafted Mac Jones out of Alabama. Personally, I think that Bill Belichick has found his QB1. The way I think this way is because Jones was clearly the best rookie QB to take to the field. He passed for 3,801 yards and scored 22 touchdowns this shows how impressive his rookie season was. I think that if Jones develops in the right way there is the possibility that he develops into a top ten quarterback for the coming years. There is also a responsibility on the front office in New England to give Mac the help he needs in terms of giving him some top-quality playmakers.

Dolphins- I think this is the toughest call to make because Tua is a quarterback that has a massive question mark on whether he is that guy for the Miami Dolphins. This is because there hasn’t been a game where you think that guy can take us to a Superbowl. Having said that he shown enough evidence that he can be a decent starter for an NFL team. The evidence for this is his 2,652 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. What you have to remember is that though the stats my look lower than another starting quarterback is that Tua was out for a total of 4 games. I think that Tua will be the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in 2022. This is because I think the Dolphins new head coach Mike McDaniel will want to evaluate Tua to see if he is the franchise QB for Miami. However, I think to evaluate him fairly the Dolphins front office need to fix the offensive line.

Jets- I think this one is an interesting option. I say this because there are clearly going to start their number 2 draft pick In Wilson. He had a promising end to the season but that came after a disappointing start However, he was injured in the middle of the season. Where the backup Mike White impressed a lot of people around the league. So, then it brings into question if Zach Wilson is actually the best QB on the roster. He finished the season north of 2,000 yards when it came to passing. So, this shows that he has the potential to develop into a quality quarterback. This why he is going starting in September.
