Andrew Van Ginkel: Rising Star or Free Agent Frenzy? Assessing His Impact and Future in the NFL

Andrew Van Ginkel had a great 2023 season with the Miami Dolphins. The 28-year-old stood out for Miami's defence. He was their best player on defence. Going into 2024, Van Ginkel is a free agent and will likely garner much attention due to his ability on the field. There is no reason why he won't get a big contract for 2024.

After playing for the University of South Dakota, Van Ginkel transferred to Wisconsin. He was then drafted. The Dolphins drafted the linebacker in the fifth round of the 2019 draft. He has been a great player for the franchise since. He has always been a decent player for the team. Yet, in 2023, we saw him step up as a critical playmaker after the injury to Jalen Phillips. In 2023, he had six sacks, one interception, and a touchdown. It was great to see Van Ginkel perform at a high level and show the league what he is all about. 

Should He Re-Sign With The Miami Dolphins

If he were to re-sign for the Dolphins in 2024, it would be interesting to see how the coaches would use him. Phillips and Bradley Chubb are coming back from injury. They want to be productive when they return. You could argue that Van Ginkel is the best linebacker on the defence. As a linebacker, he has shown he could do it all when rushing the passer and covering a receiver. If he were to come back to the Dolphins, it would be a massive positive for the franchise, as he was so crucial in 2023.

Potential Landing Spots

When looking at potential landing spots, for Van Ginkel, besides the Dolphins. His services would interest many teams. The Atlanta Falcons have struggled with their pass rush lately. With a new head coach coming, it could be a great spot for Van Ginkel. The Arizona Cardinals would like to get a player of Van Ginkel's talents. But, he is 28. It'll be interesting to see if a project like that could get a player of his standard. Finally, the New York Giants need a linebacker. They need one after trading Leonard Williams last year. Miami also needs help rushing the passer. So, losing Van Ginkel would be a big blow. Yet, he is coming off an injury, so it will be interesting to see what type of contract he gets.

Van Ginkel is a great player, and it will be interesting to see where he goes in 2024.
