Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans have parted ways after eight years together. A player like Henry will be in high demand in free agency. Yet, a good option for him could be to play for a thriving Houston Texans team.
The Career Of Derrick Henry
Henry has been one of the better running backs in the league throughout his career. The 30-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2016 draft. It is safe to say it was an excellent pick for Tennessee, as he has been a critical playmaker for them. Henry has rushed for over 9,500 yards and 90 touchdowns throughout his career. His best year in the league was 2020, when he ran for over 2,000 yards. That season, he captured the Offensive Player of The Year award. It was a massive factor in the franchise making it to the AFC Championship Game. Henry and Tennessee have had a tremendous amount of success together. Yet, seeing what the running back can do in a new franchise will be interesting.
An Incredible Run From The Houston Texans In 2023
Houston had an awe-inspiring season in 2023. The team secured a play-off win and are ahead of schedule. The additions that the front office made were great. New head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback CJ Stroud helped the team. They were a big reason the team reached the postseason. They looked formidable, and the Texans now have their franchise quarterback. Houston has a solid foundation to build off for the years to come. Yet, after the success of 2023, the franchise will be looking to contend in 2024. The addition of Henry could allow them to return to the postseason.
Why Joining Forces Would Be Great
A significant weakness of the Texans last season was the running game. Their offence had to rely on the passing game to move the ball. For a rookie quarterback, this is difficult, but, Stroud copes with it very well. Adding a solid running back like Henry would let them open the ground game. It would create a more balanced attack. For Henry, Houston would be an attractive option. They are a promising side with lots of potential. It would be an excellent partnership for both parties and help each other.
Henry is a great player, and seeing where he ends up next year will be interesting.
