Wales had a promising start against France yesterday. They scored excellent tries against the opposition. Yet, in the latter stages of the match, Wales struggled. France made a fresh set of substitutions. They dominated the physical battle against the Welsh. Sam Warburton and Martin Johnson talked about the problem for Wales post-match.

Wales Vs France

There was a lot of intrigue going into the game, as many people expected it to be close. The first 50 minutes were tight as both teams scored some brilliant tries. Yet, the game changed when France brought their substitutions on. It highlighted Wales's lack of physicality as the French squad dominated up front. A physical team is crucial in today's game as it sets a good foundation for the backs to work off. Yet, Wales aren't that now, which is an issue.

Warburton talks about Wales's lack of physicality.

"I'm going to sound like a broken record, but you can't play the game and will be physically inferior. If you lack big, skilled athletes, it will be tough. You'll face big guys coming at you, and you can't stop them. We lack the players to match the power of England, Ireland, and France. We need to find the players from somewhere."

"The commentators used the word power a lot, and rightly so. You can talk a lot about fluffy things, but when you lose the physical battle, you won't win the game more often.

"You saw the warning signs in the first half. Wales was holding on when France's big ball carriers came off number nine."

Martin Johnson Weighs In

Johnson commented on Wales and said they needed to get over the defeat before Italy come to town.

"The writing on the wall predicted what would happen before making the subs. Wales were trying to stem that power. As the first half went on, the power was starting to show.

"It was a mature performance from France. Wales scored their best try at the start of the second half and then almost didn't see the ball again."

"They (Wales) have a heck of the spirit and will come out battling next week.
