US Grand Prix: Red Bull Take the Constructers Championship in an Exciting Race at the Circuit of the Americas

Max Verstappen takes victory over old foe Lewis Hamilton at Austin in an exciting race that confirms Red Bull as 2022 constructers champions.

Verstappen stormed to victory after overcoming a slow pit stop which left him with a lot of work to do, including overtaking rival Hamilton to take victory.

Fernando Alonso fought back to seventh after a horrific crash with Lance Stroll where his car went airborne, but he got a post-race penalty after the race which demoted him to P15.

Sebastian Vettel won the driver of the day award in a race where he led the field for a brief time but due to a slow pitstop he ended up in seventh after Alonso’s penalty.

Check out the highlights

The Circuit of the Americas didn’t disappoint with an action-packed race from start to finish. It was reminiscent of the 2021 season. This is because the battle for the win was between Hamilton and Verstappen. The reason for this is due to a rare slow pitstop from the Red Bull pit crew. Thanks to the slow stop Verstappen lost track position to the likes of Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. However, this didn’t stop Verstappen from taking the chequered flag. Thanks to Verstappen’s victory Red Bull took their fifth constructers title.

When you look at Ferrari’s race, Carlos Sainz’s race was ruined by a collision with George Russell which left Sainz unable to continue. This left Leclerc as Ferrari’s only hope. He had to work his way up from the back of the grid. Leclerc had the pace to get back up to the front of the grid. However, tyre degradation stopped him from fighting for the lead with the likes of Hamilton and Verstappen.

For the Haas team they had a points finish with Kevin Magnussen

Here is what Magnussen had to say about getting points at his team’s home race.

“I’m super happy. For us as a team, it’s very important to get these points at our home race in the US – and it’s very big on the weekend that we announce a great title sponsor with MoneyGram – it couldn’t come at a better time. Of course, I’m gutted to lose a position to Sebastian. I have to say it was some driving from him, that’s when you realize why he’s a four-time World Champion. The strategy that we pulled off was purely by guidance with the team. As such a small team to put on a fight like this, it’s great.”

It was a great weekend for F1, Mexico next.
