Mexico Preview: Can Verstappen Surpass Michael Schumacher and Sebestian Vettel to become the Most Winning Driver in a Season

Max Verstappen is looking to break the record for the most wins in a season with a victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.

However, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez will be looking to be the first Mexican driver to win their home grand prix after his podium last year.

Meanwhile the race for second place in the championship is heating up with only two points between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Pérez with George Russell and Carlos Sainz still in the mix.

Looking down the championship table the battle sixth is close where Aston Martin will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing US Grand Prix.

The constructers and driver’s championship have been decided but this doesn’t mean the season is over. The battle for second is as tight as it can be with two points separating Leclerc and Pérez. Leclerc has a total of 267 points and Pérez is on 265 points. When you look at the two drivers, they have both had a mix set of results this season. A major flashpoint for Leclerc was in France which saw him crashing out of the lead. Pérez never made one big mistake throughout the season; he has just been off the pace in some races. With races like the Red Bull Ring and Monza coming to mind. You could say that these two drivers should have more points than they do. Yet, due to mistakes, DNFs, and bad strategies calls they have failed to capitalize on opportunities to score more points. Now, that there are only three races left of the season every point counts. Pérez will be looking to gain a position in the championship over Leclerc. He will be looking for a strong points haul on home soil.

Pérez on a potential win in his home race

I’ve dreamt a few times already about it,”

“It would be massive for me.”

Pérez would become the first Mexican to win in his home grand prix

When you look down the constructers championship the closes battle is for sixth. There are three teams in the fight for sixth place. Those three teams are Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, and Haas. However, Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin have only one point between them. Haas are not that far behind with 38 points which is 14 points at the rear of Alfa Romeo in sixth. Aston Martin are looking the strongest, with the car having a strong performance in the US Grand Prix. This is a battle you would want to keep an eye on this weekend.

A brief point is that Verstappen can break the record for most wins in a season. So, let’s see if the Dutchman can break another record this weekend.
