Schumacher had an up-and-down first stint in Formula One. He raced for Haas, where he showed glimpses of speed but failed to secure a drive for 2023. The German has the speed to produce solid results in F1. Yet, he needed to be more consistent because Schumacher had many crashes. It may have been one of the reasons Haas let him go because they don't have a tremendous amount of money. Last year, he spent time with Mercedes on the sidelines as a reserve driver. It means he got invaluable experience working with the team that won many titles. It could also help his case in replacing Hamilton. If Mercedes feels Russell is a top driver, then Schumacher could be a great wingman to him. Of course, only Mercedes knows how he did on the simulator, etc. But, he's so young. He deserves another chance in F1. Why not with Mercedes?

He spoke to Sky Sports Germany about his chances of getting the seat.

"I'm aware that Lewis' Mercedes seat will be free," Schumacher told Sky Germany.

"I'm still watching Formula 1; I'm hoping, the dream will come true again. But in the end, it's essential that I also do my things. I must see my role as a backup driver, especially as a WEC driver.

"If I perform well, let's see where it takes me."
