F1 returns to Abu Dhabi to close out the 2022 season

Formula One heads into its final race of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as we cap off another great year for the sport of F1.

It is the first time that the F1 has come to the Yas Marina Circuit since the controversial 2021 title decider which saw Max Verstappen win his maiden title.

It is a fierce fight for second in the drivers’ championship between Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez where there is nothing separating the two drivers.

We will sadly have to say goodbye to some great drivers, some forever and some will be looking to return.

We could be having a six-way fight for the final win of the season. Red Bull will be looking to rebound after a disappointing race last weekend. Whereas Mercedes will be aiming to capitalize on the momentum from the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ferrari will look to get their first win since the Austria Grand Prix.

Even though the championship winner was wrapped up a while ago, second place is still very much up for grabs. There is zero points separating Pérez and Leclerc. They both have been performing well this season. Yet they both experienced a dip in form throughout the season. The two of them will be looking for second in the championship as it would be the best finish for both drivers ever.

The battle for second place isn’t only in the drivers’ championship but in the constructers as well. Mercedes are 19 points away from Ferrari in the championship. Ferrari’s poor strategy allowed the Mercedes to stay in touch with them. Mercedes has grown over the season with them even outscoring Ferrari towards the end of the year This was evident by them scoring the maximum amount of points  last weekend in Brazil. They did this by getting a one two finish with George Russell taking his first win of the ever. This illustrates how much Mercedes’ car has developed throughout the season. To gain the second place they desire, Mercedes will have to outscore Ferrari by 19 points.

This Sunday we mark the end of a great career. I am of course talking about Sebastian Vettel. The four-time world champion will say goodbye to F1 after the chequered flag waves in Abu Dhabi. Nicholas Latifi, Daniel Riccardo, and Mick Schumacher also have no seat for next season. This could suggest that they would like to finish on a high.

It should great race to close out the season.
