Kamaru Usman is one of the best combat sports athletes ever to do it. He is coming off a few losses but has been competitive in all of them. It is safe to say the Nigerian fighter looks like he can still make an impact against top-level competition. When he returns to action, it will attract a lot of fine interest. Furthermore, there are many potential opponents that he could match up with. However, when thinking about his next fight, three potential athletes come to mind.

Both competitors have been top names at 170 for a very long time. They have always talked about the two fighting, but the fight never happened. Of course, Muhammad just won the welterweight championship at UFC 304 in Manchester. This means that he will be looking for a first challenger. Even though Usman is coming off three losses, when you have held the belt for as long as he did, you can easily justify a title shot. It would be interesting to see how the fight between the two competitors would play out because they are both great wrestlers who can handle themselves on their feet. The fight would attract much interest, and the welterweight belt would add a certain level of intrigue.

Stephen Thompson

When thinking about the greatest welterweights, Usman and Stephen Thompson are at the top of the list. It is wild to think that the two have never clashed inside the UFC Octagon. This is because they have both been around the title picture for a while and are legends at 170. It is interesting to consider the two of them fighting because it would be such a clash of styles. Usman would have the advantage in terms of wrestling, whereas it's hard to find a better striker than Thompson. A win would do either fighter a world of good and get them right back into the title picture. It would be fantastic to see these two titans of the UFC clash, as the fight has been a long time in the making.

Khamzat Chimaev or Robert Whittaker

If Usman wants to fight at middleweight, there are also some fascinating options. Usman gave Chimaev a good run for his money when the two met on short notice. Chimaev won the fight, but you would have to back the former welterweight champion if it were a five-round contest. This is because Usman was winning the competition in the later rounds. On the other hand, Whittaker would provide a great opponent for Usman. They are both big names in the UFC, and their styles make for an excellent matchup. Whittaker and Chimaev will meet in the coming months, and Usman would be the perfect opponent for the winner.

Usman is a sensational fighter; seeing what he does next will be interesting.
