There are many great teams in the county of Bridgend with a lot of history and loyal support. One of those clubs is Porthcawl RFC, who will be looking to build on a strong season last year. Porthcawl is a famous town that many people visit. The club has produced many great players who have worn the famous red jersey. They will be looking to have a solid 2024/25 season.

The History of Porthcawl RFC

Porthcawl RFC is one of the bigger clubs in Bridgend and has a great history. The club was formed in 1880 and has had many significant moments in the team's history. Throughout their history, they have competed well in the Glamorgan area. One of the club's most important performances came in 1972 when they beat Maesteg. Porthcawl has produced a couple of internationals. Players like Tom Pryide and Ryan Bevington were part of the Wales 2011 squad. It was also the hometown club of recent Wales captain Dafydd Jenkins. This shows that they have been producing quality players for years. Porthcawl RFC will be looking to add many accomplishments to their legacy soon.

Last Year

Porthcawl competes in Division 2 West Central, which is around the mid-table. The Seagulls finished sixth last year with 67 points. Porthcawl notched up 13 wins last season in the league. They scored 626 points throughout the competition, which equals 31.3 points per game. On the defensive side of the ball, Porthcawl gave up a total of 338 points, an average of 16.9. They found the try-line often as they scored 87 tries, which was 4.35 a game. Yet, playing in the cup is when they showed what the team is all about. Porthcawl made it to the Principality Stadium for the Division 2 Cup. They came up short against an unbeaten Llanharan, but getting to the final was an outstanding achievement.

Porthcawl has all the tools needed to challenge for promotion next season. The club has a lot of talent, and thanks to their cup run, they proved they can win big games. If the Seagulls play to the best of their ability, a move to division one could be on the cards. Division 2 West Central should be a competitive league next year, as many teams in the competition have made decent signings over the offseason.
