Harlequins Coach Praises Welsh Fly-Half

Jarrod Evans has always been a top prospect in Wales. The young fly-half has been on the Welsh squad's brink for many years. Evans has recently made the move to Harlequins from Cardiff. Ever since the move, Evans has put on some great showings. It could lead to him playing international rugby sooner rather than later.

Evans is a very exciting attacking ten who can set a game alight. He has eight caps for Wales and was a mainstay in Cardiff for a long time. Born in Pontypridd, Evans came up playing rugby for his town. He put on great performances at a club level but has yet to make an impact for Wales. Yet, since moving to Harlequins, he has performed well. The Harlequins coaching coordinator, Danny Wilson, has sung his praises.

"He's been brilliant," said Wilson. "I was fortunate enough to work with Jarrod as a young man. We brought him through with Cardiff. His first season coming from the academy, he started in the European Challenge Cup final. He's the calibre person who can take things in his stride."

Evans has played in Cardiff for most of his career and is enjoying the chance to play elsewhere.

"He's relishing this challenge of playing in the Premiership. He's been in Cardiff right through his career. To come out and experience something different is going to be brilliant for him as a person. The life skills of coming to London to live having lived all his life in Wales, and as a player.

"He's known that Cardiff club for a long time; Evans has done all he could do there. He got Welsh opportunities and caps there. It's a great opportunity for him. So far, he's been excellent."

Comparing Him To Marcus Smith

Since debuting, Marcus Smith, now Evans' teammate, has taken the game by storm. Yet, Wilson said there is a similar trait between Evans and Smith.

"What I like is Jarrod and Marcus have very similar traits the way they play, which is important. What you don't want is having one of the 10s unavailable and the other one that comes in plays another way. You're then changing the DNA of the team. Jarrod and Marcus both fit Quins' model. He's a great recruit."

With a fly-half crisis at Wales, Evans looks to be peaking. It is the right time to throw his hat in the ring for the number 10 jersey.
