Sir Lewis Hamilton Happy With Mercedes This Season

The days of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes ruling the championship are long gone. Since 2021, the silver arrows have only been on the podium's top step once. In 2023, the Red Bull has been on fire. Max Verstappen has already won the world championship and now seems to be in cruise control. Yet, his teammate Sergio Pérez is in a battle with Hamilton for second in the drivers’ standings.  Hamilton has said he is not looking to get P2.

If you take away Verstappen from the championship, it would be competitive. Hamilton has had a great season with fantastic drives. He has beaten his teammate George Russell in the driver's championship. The British driver is 30 points away from Pérez with two races remaning. Hamilton has said that he is not focusing on the P2.

"He's too far away now," Hamilton continued.

"30 points, in two races, yeah, he would have to have two disasters, and I would have to be second."

Exceeding Expectations

The Mercedes has been a decent race car in 2023, with the ability to get regular podiums. Hamilton went on to say this season has exceeded expectations.

"It doesn't make any difference if I'm second or third," Hamilton confirmed.

"We still had a fantastic year, given the car that we've had. We never thought we would be fighting for second in the Constructors. Knocking on the door of the most dominant car of our era.

"I'm grateful for being where we are and having a half-decent season. Much better than last year."
