Driver Market Rumbles: Hamilton's Ferrari Move Sparks Alonso Speculation

The news shocked the driver market for 2025. Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes for Ferrari. Mercedes will now be looking to replace the seven-time world champion for next season. There are many excellent options for the German team to choose from. Fernando Alonso is the one who has been linked with the Brackley-based team.

Alonso has shown the world that age is only a number. The two-time champion is at the top of his game and is still one of the best drivers on the grid. His first season with Aston Martin was very successful, as the team took a massive step forward in 2023. Yet, they don't look like they will soon be competing for the world championship. The team is the fifth fastest on the grid. It means that a driver of Alonso's calibre may be looking to move elsewhere next year. Mercedes would be a fantastic option as they have a proven track record of winning.

Furthermore, they will likely be competing for a title quicker than Aston Martin. It will be interesting to see whether Alonso will drive for the Silver Arrows next year. Only time will tell.

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack says the team will do anything to keep Alonso.

"We want to continue working with Fernando.

"The most important thing is that we give him a quick car, so he believes in this project and this team.

"Everything else, we will have to discuss over the coming weeks.

"A driver of that calibre is attractive to everybody, that is clear. But we will try to keep him.

"We had seen that last year already when he joined, it's not only what he brings in terms of driving talent and race craft. He brings this extra drive, push and motivation to everybody.

"He leads by example, from the first day, with his mood from the first moment in the morning to late at night.

"It is exemplary. This is infecting the whole team, and you want to preserve it."
