Colby Covington is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC today. The American talks a lot of trash but backs it up. He is a former interim welterweight champion and has had many great performances. Covington will take on Leon Edwards at UFC 296 for the title. Yet, Covington believes the champ still needs to earn his spot at the top.

Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington

Covington is one of the division's top names due to how he markets himself. The 35-year-old has a load of tools that he uses in the Octagon. He has an excellent wrestling pedigree as a division one wrestler. His striking is also sensational, and he throws at volume. Yet, Covington's primary weapon is his cardio; he can go all out for the duration of the fight. December could be the last time he fights for a championship. It is because it will be the third time he fights for the belt.

Does Leon Edwards Deserve It

Edwards is an incredible fighter and has the heart of a champion. He beat Kamaru Usman for the belt with a sensational head kick. When speaking to UFC.com, Covington believes Edwards hasn't earned it.

"He had the right matchups at the right time to get to that point in his career," Covington said. "He fought a lightweight washout in Nate Diaz and sat out almost two years to get his title shot. Edwards didn't warrant a title shot after beating that guy. He cried, 'I deserve this, I deserve that', instead of going out there and working for it or earning it like I did.

"I had to earn it the hard way. No one gave me this spot to fight for the undisputed title. I had to earn it," Covington continued. "I had to go the unconventional way because the straight-ahead way wasn't available. He didn't earn it the hard way like I did, and on December 16, he will find out that he will get broken by the American dream."
