Cheltenham Town’s Alfie May after a victory against Wycombe Wanderers

Cheltenham Town forward Alife May said “I am just glad to be amongst the boys” after his first game back from injury against Wycombe Wanderers.

Coming into the game May was looking for a strong return after an injury that led to him missing some games for the Robins, he did just that by scoring the one and only goal of the game.

May on being back from injury

“ Yeah its good to be back and I’ve had a good week leading up to this game and just glad to be back amongst the boys, it’s a good feeling , scoring against Wycombe again. I don’t know what it is, but I keep scoring against them but you takeaway the goal the performance was superb and it’s just what we needed.”

Towards the end of the game May was subbed off leaving fans worried that he had reaggravated the injury. However, it didn’t seem to be the case as it looked like it was just a precaution. Which will be a relief for Cheltenham fans as Wade Elliott’s men look to make the most out of the 22/23 season.

May on if being subbed off was a precaution.

“Yeah, just where I haven’t been playing or training sometimes you stiffen up and my back stiffen up a little bit so it was the best thing to come off, probably wasn’t meant to play for as long as I did but with the game like it was. I was saying to the gaffer I don’t want to come off yet, I felt like there were more goals to come but you take 1-0 and you take three points.”

Cheltenham forward Dan Nlundulu has been in good form as of late. He is on loan at Cheltenham from Southampton.

May on playing upfront with Nlundulu.

“ Superb, you know what dan gives to the team he links up and the way he hustles defenders, that’s why we probably do so well together it’s nice to have a partnership like that, whoever is in the team you got to try and form that partnership, me and Dan have done that, it’s good to have a parentship like that and it’s good to be back in the team.”

With this win the Robins take three points which helps them tremendously in the league.

May on taking three points.

“It’s massive it started when the lads were putting their bodies on the line to take a point against Ipswich, probably one of the best teams in the league, you go into training leading up to this big week and to take the three points is massive.

Coming back from injury you never know how, and athlete will perform

May on his mentality coming into the game.

“I was frustrated when I got my injury, I felt like I was back to my best, this is football and you have to deal with these things that hit you hard, its all about working hard and getting back as quick as I can and as fit as I can.
